Main Page From Jump to: navigation , search Contents 1 NEW: REVISION EFFORT 2 Definition 3 Background 4 Important sections 5 Interesting papers 6 Examples of open value networks 7 Interesting links 8 Important categories NEW: REVISION EFFORT ATTENTION: We are going through another systematic revision cycle of the OVN model. See more on OVN 3.0 page. Definition Open (OVN) refers to a new organisational framework. The model provides the structures necessary to allow people to freely associate and participate in activities and projects and reach shared goals, even in the case where these goals require very complex processes that need to be sustained for very long periods of time. Open means free access to participation. The working definition of value is: a process through which human beings, in relation with each other and with their environment, are moved into action. This definition can be extended to other living systems . Network means a set of interconnected autonomous agents who maintain a set of relations, dictated by their respective roles, and act according to a set of shared rules and methodologies. Agents are called affiliates in the OVN model. It is the network that is open . The network environment provides value sovereignty to the agents that form them. In other words, autonomous agents or affiliates collectively decide in context how to link participation with distribution of benefits. OVN is an approach to commons-based peer production . It allows individuals and organizations to co-create and aggregate valuables through lateral and large scale coordination, cooperation and collaboration to serve as a responsible steward of commonly held wealth and assets to account for various inputs and outcomes in a common ledger system distribute benefits equitably and intentionally within and beyond the network and to share returns amongst contributors, in proportion to their contributions . The OVN model relies on p2p principles of co-production, self-organization, and stewardship of commons . peer production - the collaborative production of surplus value by means of common and contributed assets; peer governance - direction and accountability by the community of producers themselves, not by market allocation or corporate hierarchy; peer property - the use-value of property is accessible on a collective trust basis through new modes of ownership which are not exclusive, while recognizing individual authorship or title where appropriate. An OVN is a general model that can be implemented under different forms, adapted to specific contexts. Allow everyone to join and take part in innovation and co-creation processes, to enable mass-customization, as opposed to mass-production. (Economies of scope vs. economies of scale) equipotentiality, anti-credentialism, self-selection, communal validation, and holoptism Open infrastructure funding initiative Background The model was first proposed, developed and implemented by SENSORICA affiliates. SENSORICA was created in February 2011. Initially, the model evolved from the Discovery Network model proposed by Tibi in 2009-2010. Between 2011 and 2012, the model was developed in collabaration by Tibi , Steve , Kurt , Bayle and others, and drew from the work of Verna Allee , Yochai Benkler , Michel Bauwens , Clay Shirky , and others. After the summer of 2012, the contribution accounting and distributed resource management system ( NRP-CAS ) was influenced by Bob Haugen who has been working in this area since 1995. From May 2013 to May 2014, Yasir worked on a framework for open value network in collaboration with other SENSORICA affiliates. The OVN model was extended to network of networks, in the context of the Open Alliance , which is was supposed to be a network-of-networks including other open organizations in Montreal, including SENSORICA . The Open Alliance attempt to federate open organizations in Montreal failed. In 2016 the Verdun project started, which constitutes a second attempt to bring the OVN model at a larger scale. See more on OVN history (still in development). Other organizations have adopted a model similar to SENSORICA CoMakery CollectiveOne It should be noted that the OVN work will input directly into international ISO standards development, namely, ISO/IEC 15944-15 "Information technology - Business Operational View - Part 15: Ope s(OVN): Integrated perspective on Open-edi, eBusiness, blockchain and distributed transactions". The lead international ISO Project Editor : Prof. William McCarthy , with Jake Knoppers as one of two Co-Project Editors. The international ISO standards committee responsible here is ISO/IEC JTC1/SC32/WG1 (where JTC1 = Joint ISO, IEC = Technical Committee on Information technology, SC = Data Management & Interchange, WG1 = eBusiness) Important sections Economic model Infrastructure Legal structure and Legal framework Metrics Culture Ethos Theoretical background - living systems Theoretical background - collective intelligence Dictionary Interesting papers On power On trust On governance Examples of open value networks Go to OVN.space SENSORICA iAGRI innovation portfolio Metamaps see their documents Guerilla Translation!
